We currently use Meeting Room Booking System (MRBS) - but will be moving to Booking Calendar for the new building.

There is only one install base, but the config file has been modified to include a "local" config file, allowing three separate instances to run from this single install base.

Three instances:
  1. Meeting Rooms
  2. Study Rooms
  3. Library Meeting rooms
"Meeting Rooms" includes:
  • Classrooms
  • 4th Floor Conference Rooms
  • Table & Lobby Reservations
  • Visiting Faculty Offices

"Meeting Rooms" reservations are manually inputted by Robin from event submissions. There is a "helper form" for reserving rooms for regular classes,

As we transition to the new building, it may be time to reassess this system. While MRBS will work for the new building, it may not be the best choice. It is skinned to match other pages, but has some other shortcomings. It is not integrated with any other systems, and is currently using a spliced-in authentication system. It is in (somewhat) active development, but has gotten a bit "heavy" and does not work well on mobile devices.

It would be good for classes to automatically show on our reservation system.

Possible alternatives:

OpenRoom - open source, PHP, used by the University Library, is mobile friendly(ish), uses LDAP out of the box. Need to see if is has multiple access "roles" (MRBS has only two log-in levels).

Events Manager - already in use on InsideLaw - does not currently have any provision to prevent double bookings or to enforce any policies (duration, open hours, etc).

WordPress plugins - not yet evaluated any
