The Georgia House Democratic Caucus serves as a focal point for legislative strategy, press relations, and policy development for the Democratic members of the Georgia House of Representatives.
In the fall semester, students work closely with the Legislative Director and Deputy Legislative Director to identify weak areas of the O.C.G.A., conduct research to brainstorm progressive revisions to the Code, and meet with likeminded progressive organizations to draft and message those revisions for presentation to the community. Students are encouraged to find and involve themselves in policies of personal interest as related legislation moves through the formation process.
In the spring semester, students work closely with the Legislative Director and Deputy Legislative Director to provide legal assistance to legislators by analyzing proposed legislation, tracking bills through the committee process, drafting legislation and amendments, researching policy and legal issues, and providing interpretive assistance to non-lawyer legislators. Students are encouraged to find and involve themselves in policies of personal interest as related leglislation moves through the legislative process.
A writing sample is required at the time of interview.
