SITE DESCRIPTION
The Georgia State University Athletic Department is a Division I Football Bowl Subdivision athletic program within the Sun Belt Conference. Georgia State currently sponsors sixteen Division I sports. Although externs within the Compliance Office gain experience in a variety of different ways, their primary responsibilities include the following: researching and interpreting NCAA and Sun Belt Conference legislation; developing compliance education materials (including oral presentations) for coaches, student-athletes and staff; researching and drafting NCAA waivers and interpretation requests; assisting with the initial eligibility certification process; monitoring practices and games to ensure compliance with NCAA rules; and conducting audits of documentation relating to recruiting and practice activities.
STUDENT QUALIFICATIONS
Prerequisites: None
Preferences:
- 2L or 3L students preferred
- Prior experience in a collegiate or professional athletic organization,
- Experience with legal research
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Externs are expected to fulfill certain game day responsibilities and therefore must be available during some Georgia State home football and basketball contests.
