GSFC is one of the most successful state student aid operations in the nation. Founded in 1965 as the State Scholarship Commission, the agency’s primary function is to provide and service educational loans. Over the years, GSFC has grown to be the administrator of more than 20 state- and lottery-funded scholarships, grants and service-cancelable loan programs that ensure Georgians have an opportunity to access education beyond high school. In addition, GSFC provides free financial aid consultation to K-12, postsecondary institutions and community organizations across the state to help students and their families prepare to pay for college.
Externs will work with GSFC’s General Counsel to draft, review, and participate in negotiations regarding professional service, technology and other contracts; conduct research on legal questions for GSFC staff and clients; develop and draft policies, procedures and regulations related to the business of the agency; develop and draft staff development lectures; monitor, suggest and draft legislation related to the agency; and assist the General Counsel with any other legal matters which arise.
