July 16, 2008 - Events, General

The law librarians and our Director are in Portland, OR for the American Association of Law Libraries Annual Meeting.

It's a fitting location to host law librarians considering it's the home of Powell's City of Books. The Georgia State University librarians have been busy here participating in public service events, hosting a diversity symposium, attending workshops and committee meetings, receiving awards, presenting at a number of educational programs, and exploring the city of roses including its local microbrews, Pinot Noirs and a variety of Voodoo Doughnuts--one that had bacon on it.

There were a number of interesting and enlightening technology presentations, namely one on law practice technology courses at Duke and Boston College, another on classroom polling systems used by firms, and one on how libraries are using Second Life to reach patrons. In addition David Pogue, Technology Columnist for the New York Times, discussed macro trends in technology including voice over Internet, voice to text, the influence of iPhone, and web 2.0.A at the conference opening general session.

We are all eager to get back to Atlanta but not so eager that we will miss the closing ceremonies this evening. See everyone back at Georgia State soon.
