New Rankings for Georgia State Law
In two recent online rankings, Georgia State University College of Law fares well, coming in at No. 24 for Tipping the Scales and No. 42 with Above the Law.
"The new rankings are further evidence that Georgia State Law delivers on its promise to provide an accessible, practical, quality legal education," says Steven J. Kaminshine, dean and professor of law. "The practical experiences and blended curriculum we provide our students enable them to make an impact after graduation."
Tipping the Scales, an online resource for law students, looked at two key dimensions of the J.D. experience— the quality of accepted students and graduate success. The new rankings also looked at the selectivity at each school.
The number one school in the Tipping the Scales ranking was Stanford Law. The new rankings top 25 schools differed from U.S. News & World Report's annual rankings and did not factor in reputation scores from peer institutions and the profession.
Georgia State Law, which is ranked at No. 54 for U.S. News, fared well in part because its acceptance rate of 26.8 percent is more selective than other schools like New York University and Georgetown University. The college's employment rate and median public interest salary for graduates also played a role.
In September, the college was ranked No. 42 by legal blog Above the Law. Above the Law focused on outcomes in developing a top 50 ranking. Employment data, large firm placement, federal clerkship placement and tuition were the key metrics used.
