Flynn (J.D. '13) wins environmental writing competition
WASHINGTON — James E. Flynn III, (J.D. '13) and visiting student at Florida State University College of Law, has been named winner of the eighth annual ELI-ABA-NAELS Constitutional Environmental Law Student Writing Competition. Flynn will receive a $2,000 cash award and publication in the Environmental Law Reporter, the institute's flagship journal and the most often cited law review covering environmental and natural resource issues.
Flynn's entry, "The Fraudulent Misrepresentation of Climate Science," provides a thought-provoking analysis about addressing climate science misrepresentation. "This ambitious article highlights disturbing trends in the realm of climate science," said senior attorney Jay Austin. "Mr. Flynn raises intriguing questions about how to respond to the potential distortion of climate science information under existing and new causes of action."
The annual competition — co-sponsored by the Environmental Law Institute, the Constitutional Law Committee of the American Bar Association's Section of Environment, Energy and Resources, and the National Association of Environmental Law Societies — invites law students to analyze issues at the intersection of constitutional and environmental law. All entries received were subject to a rigorous evaluation process overseen by judges from institute ABA, and the National Association of Environmental Law Societies. The selected article will be published in Environmental Law Reporter News & Analysis this fall.
