Ponce Sole to Discuss Land Use Law and Affordable Housing on Nov. 7

ATLANTA — Juli Ponce Sole, professor of law and vice dean at University of Barcelona School of Law, will speak at noon Wednesday, Nov. 7, on "Land Use Law, Affordable Housing & Discrimination in European Cities," through Georgia State University College of Law's Center for the Comparative Study of Metropolitan Growth.

Public housing in BarcelonaIn the lecture, part of the center's Urban Fellows Program, Ponce Sole will examine urban segregation, distinguishing between economic segregation and discrimination, and its implications. He also will examine the relationship between mixed communities and sustainable cities and discuss how the law can be used to promote mixed communities and affordable housing.

Ponce Sole has published in professional journals throughout Spain, Europe, United States and Latin America. His writings include: El Derecho de la Vivienda del Siglo XXI (Marcial Pons 2008), and Land Use Law, Housing and Social and Territorial Cohesion (Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute 2006), as a result of an international conference held in Barcelona.

His consulting, research projects and lectures have included projects for the Barcelona Bar Association, for universities and public administrations in Spain, for the Pantheon-Sorbonne University of Paris I, the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, the University of Trento in Italy, Ad Urbem in Portugal and the University of Sheffield
(UK), as well as the University of Denver, Nova Southeastern University, Georgia State University and the Inter-American Development Bank.



He is a member of the European Network for Housing Research and the European Group of Public Law. Ponce Sole has been
director of several official Spanish research projects that have contributed to a flexible international network of university professors in the field of administrative law, zoning, urban planning
and housing law.

The Urban Fellows Program is an interdisciplinary initiative of the center in which top graduate students are selected from Georgia State University and Georgia Institute of Technology's School of City and Regional Planning to study and discuss issues related to urban growth with top decision-makers.
