Each entering class participates in a volunteer project during orientation week. The project offers new students time to get to know one another and to jump start their commitment to pro bono service and community outreach — a fundamental building block of legal practice. This year, students gathered at Books for Africa's Smyrna warehouse to help sort and pack books.

Books for Africa is the world's largest shipper of donated books to the African continent. It is common in rural parts of Africa for ten or more students to share one textbook and for children never to have a book of their own. The organization collects, sorts, ships and distributes books to children in 48 countries throughout Africa.
