October 7, 2011
ATLANTA -The Student Health Law Association (SHLA) volunteered at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s first-ever "Run For Your Heart" event on September 17. Consisting of a 5K race and a 1-mile "fun run" for the younger participants, the event was an exciting day for runners and volunteers alike. SHLA members happily cheered on the many runners as they crossed the finish line.
"Fun Run for Your Heart was a wonderful event," said Leanna Jordan, SHLA’s officer in charge of Community Outreach. "It was a thrill to see so many grade-school aged children leap for joy as they came across the finish line and exclaimed, ’I just ran my first 5K’ and proudly proceed to the snack table."
The event’s enthusiastic runners ranged from toddlers to adults, and all participants’ registration fees benefitted Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA). Runners raised donations and sponsorships for the event, which turned out to be a huge success with over 50 race participants.
"It was so fun to feel the energy and excitement of all the other participants and volunteers," said Leah Murphy, a first-year law student at Georgia State, "It was amazing to see how many people came out to support CHOA, even on a chilly early morning. Being part of such an enjoyable event was a very memorable experience."
