Chip Hill joins college as assistant dean
August 8, 2011
ATLANTA – Chip Hill joined Georgia State University College of Law this summer as assistant dean for administration and finance.
Hill spent the previous 13 years working for GSU in multiple roles in the Office of Budget & Planning, including seven years as director when he oversaw the development and management of various university budgets exceeding $550 million annually.
Among the projects Hill will have a role in at Georgia State Law is the new law school building, which is currently in the design phase. Hill recognizes the coming months and years will be a critical time in the law school’s history and development.
“One of the most appealing parts of coming to the College of Law is the timing,” he says. “The law school has had a number of achievements and made tremendous progress with amazing results in the relatively short life of the college. I think we have the opportunity to continue on that upward trajectory with the design of a new building, the hiring of new faculty and the continued development of program offerings.”
Prior to working at Georgia State, Hill worked for the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, and for a defense contractor in Atlanta. He holds a B.S. in Business with a minor in Communication from Wake Forest University. Hill has also completed a pair of graduate degrees from Georgia State, including a Master of Business Administration as well as a Master of Arts in Political Science with a specialization in American Politics.
Hill knows Georgia State and other universities continue to face challenges presented the economic climate. He’s well aware of the obstacles the university must overcome.
“Everyone is having to do more with less, and the proverbial low-hanging fruit was picked a long time ago. Continuing to expand and improve programs while maintaining quality and providing services to students is the biggest challenge everyone in the university system is facing.”
Hill succeeds Dr. Bill Prigge, who served the law school for eight years before leaving Georgia State last spring to become the new vice president for business and finance for Southern Polytechnic State University.
“I’m looking forward to coming to the College of Law and trying to fill Bill’s shoes,” he said. ”Having worked with him in my prior role with Georgia State, I know he was incredibly effective and set the bar very high. But hopefully I can build on what Bill put in place and continue to help the college move forward.”
