College offers pilot Summer Patent Law Program

ATLANTA -- In conjunction with the United States Patent and Trademark Office's Patent Experience Externship Program (PEEP), Georgia State University College of Law is offering a pilot Summer Patent Law Program. This program will require students to work at the USPTO in Alexandria, Virginia 40 hours per week for nine weeks beginning June 6, 2011.
Students will be required to complete weekly assignments and an Atlanta patent lawyer will facilitate a one-hour weekly seminar. The class will be graded on a S/U scale and students will earn 4 credit hours upon successful completion of the program.*
Students interested in participating in the College of Law Summer Patent Program must apply to the USPTO PEEP program at: http://law.gsu.edu/summerpatent. Please note: Students may preference any one of the areas listed under the Office of the Commissioner for Patents.
Students must submit all application materials directly to the USPTO and must provide written notification to Professor Kendall Kerew (pictured) immediately upon application and again upon acceptance into the PEEP program.
*This program will count toward total externship hours allowed. Students who have taken two semesters of externships are not eligible to receive course credit.
