Congratulations to Thomas F. Cooley, recipient of the 2003 Attorneys Title Guaranty Scholarship. In his winning application , Cooley wrote, “I have tested, inspected, regulated, financed and analyzed developments ranging from mega malls to earth dams, and from high-rise condominiums to manufactured home tie-downs.” Mr. Cooley plans to practice real estate law, specializing in the development of affordable housing, an area he has worked in for the last 15 years.
A part-time College of Law student, Mr. Cooley currently works at Prudential Huntoon-Paige where underwrites commercial multifamily loans. From 1987 to 2000, he served as management analysis officer at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, D.C. After attending dozens of closings as the lender's underwriter, Mr. Cooley looks forward to the day when he will be able to change seats and serve as the lender's attorney.
Over the next four semesters, Mr. Cooley will not only be pursuing real estate related courses within the JD program, but will also be taking planning and development courses as part of a joint Master of Public Administration arrangement with the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. He hopes to establish a specialized practice of real restate law assisting lenders, developers, builders and purchasers of tax credit, bond financed and other special case properties.
