Georgia’s water laws were formed in an age of ample water, small populations, and dry-land agriculture at the dawn of the industrial age. After years of boom, sprawl, irrigation, and sporadic drought, the supplies of water and the laws that allocate that water are so stressed that Georgia lawmakers are considering significant changes in Georgia water law.
Disputes between Georgia and its neighboring states and among classes and regions of users within Georgia are the impetus for legal developments in the courts, the state, and the federal government. The legal experts gathered for this conference cannot ordain particular values to govern water laws in Georgia and its neighbors. The conference can suggest the range of values in play and the assortment of tools to realize those values.
This seminar is approved for five CLE hours by the Georgia Commission on Continuing Lawyer Competency.
