Budnitz and Yarn named COL faculty scholarship recipients
August 31, 2005
Professors Mark E. Budnitz and Douglas H. Yarn have been named recipients of the College of Law's first annual Patricia T. Morgan Award for Outstanding Faculty Scholarship.
The award recognizes two faculty members for excellence in research and scholarship who compiled a substantial and continuing record of outstanding research, scholarly activity and publishing within the previous two years.
According to College of Law Interim Dean Steven J. Kaminshine, the College created the scholarship fund in 2002 in memory of the late Professor Morgan.
“Pat Morgan joined the College of Law's faculty in 1988, and she was honored as Professor of the Year by students in 1993 and 2002,” he said. “Her textbooks, Tax Procedure & Tax Fraud in a Nutshell and Cases and Materials on Tax Procedure and Tax Fraud, are used at law schools throughout the country.“
The scholarship consists of a $12,500 summer research grant and a course release during the next academic year for faculty members selected.
“It is indeed a privilege to receive this scholarship named for Patricia Morgan,” remarked Professor Budnitz. “Professor Morgan’s achievements were many here at the College of Law, and she was a role model for me because of her outstanding scholarship. So this is a particularly meaningful award for me to receive.”
“Professors Morgan and Budnitz were so instrumental in my joining the faculty here at Georgia State’s College of Law,” added Professor Yarn. “I couldn’t be more pleased to be recognized in such company.”
