College of Law welcomes new and returning students

The start of the 2005-2006 academic year is here, and the College of Law at Georgia State is pleased to welcome our incoming class of new first-year students, and welcome back our second and third-year law students.
According to Steven Kaminshine, College of Law interim dean, new students are embarking on a “challenging educational experience.”
“At Georgia State’s College of Law, our students learn important skills that can be applied in diverse professional contexts,” he explained. “The College’s faculty and curriculum will ensure a legal education of the highest quality, and our staff will make certain the needs of all students are met in a timely and professional manner.”
A four-day orientation session kicked off the start of classes for new first-year students in both full and part-time programs August 15. At a glance, following are a few factoids about the new incoming class:
Number of applications received by the College: 3,247
Number of students accepted: 597* (18.3%)
Average LSAT score: 159
Average GPA: 3.35
Number of transfer and guest applications: 61
Number of accepted transfer and guest students: 23

In addition to new incoming first-year law students, the College of Law expects approximately150 full-time and 60 part-time second-year students, and some 170 full-time and 50 part-time third-year students. There will also be nearly 40 returning fourth-year students in the part-time program.
