Graduates Honored at Hooding Ceremony

May 31, 2006

The College of Law at Georgia State University held its 2006 Spring Hooding Ceremony on the evening of May 12 with more than 180 graduates donning academic regalia for the occasion. The hooding ceremony was open to all students who graduated in the summer of 2005, fall of 2005 and this spring.

A large crowd gathered at Georgia State’s Sports Arena for the event, which featured opening remarks by Provost Ron Henry and a welcome from COL Dean Steve Kaminshine.

The Hooding Ceremony guest speaker was Stephen B. Bright, president and senior counsel of the Southern Center for Human Rights. A COL student committee selected Patrick Connell as the student speaker at this year's ceremony, which was followed by a reception at the Urban Life Plaza.

The Spring 2006 Commencement Ceremony for law graduates was then held the next evening, May 13, in the Sports Arena.

“Our hooding ceremony is filled with tradition,” said Dean Kaminshine. “Our thanks go out to our students, their families and friends in attendance, to Steve Bright for his thoughtful remarks, to Patrick Connell for his outstanding student speaking role, and to our faculty and staff who work hard to make our hooding ceremonies as memorable as possible.

“We are especially proud of this year’s graduating class, who honored the College at the ceremony by presenting the 2006 Class Gift in the amount of $6,000,” added the dean. “This gift will go toward the Patricia T. Morgan Scholarship fund.”
