Associate Dean Anne Emanuel Chairs ABA Team Study On Georgia’s Death Penalty
January 30, 2006
Georgia State College of Law Associate Dean Anne S. Emanuel is making headlines this week as the chair of the American Bar Associations Georgia death penalty assessment team.
According to a just-released 323-page report prepared by the team, the ABA has recommended a moratorium on the death penalty prosecutions, noting major flaws in Georgia’s system for trying capital defendants.
"The purpose of this study is to move the system forward so that it's more capable of providing even-handed justice on a consistent basis," Dean Emanuel commented. "We're not saying a death penalty is never appropriate. We’re saying you should dot the I’s and cross the T’s."
For complete details on the study, comments from Dean Emanuel and other members of the ABA assessment team, see this article in the January 29th edition of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
