The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum in Atlanta is hosting an exhibit that is the first of its kind in America, which was created Dr. David Smith Jr., the assistant director/public service advisor in the Career Services Office at the Georgia State University College of Law.
Also a historian and author, Dr. Smith's exhibit is titled "African American Presidents: The Founding Fathers of Liberia, 1848-1904." The exhibit opens February 25 at the Carter Center and will run through May 21.
"The African American Presidents" exhibit is a history of the men who rose from humble beginnings in the United States to forge and lead the nation of Liberia, the first Republic in Africa. Through oil paintings and photographs, this exhibition features the first 10 presidents of Liberia and their challenge in creating a nation.
