Fisher & Phillips is College of Law 25th Anniversary Premier Sponsor
October 5, 2007
The Georgia State University College of Law is proud to announce that Fisher & Phillips LLP, a leading law firm in the areas of labor and employment law, has joined the 25th anniversary celebration of the college as a Premier Sponsor.
“Everyone associated with the College of Law is delighted that Fisher & Phillips has made such a substantial contribution to our 25th anniversary celebration programs,” said Steven Kaminshine, the fifth dean of the law school. “Their recognition of our legal education efforts and our important role in the development of America's lawyers is a very meaningful gift to us. Fisher & Phillips is making possible the many exciting and engaging anniversary programs the college has organized.”
With its first classes in 1982, the College of Law at Georgia State has made substantial differences in the lives of its students, its faculty and its hometown of Atlanta. Today, its march continues. The Fulton County Daily Report (Atlanta) recently spotlighted Georgia's top 15 lawyers under the age of 40 – and five of them were College of Law alumni. The school's health law program is ranked 10th in the country by U.S. News & World Report, which also ranks the college at number 82 overall – the youngest law school to ever be included in the Top 100. The Princeton Review says that the college is fifth in the category of welcoming older students, and National Jurist's PreLaw magazine recently named the college the third best-value law school in the country.
"Fisher & Phillips has enjoyed a long and beneficial relationship with the Georgia State University College of Law going all the way back to its first graduating classes,” added Fisher & Phillips Managing Partner Roger Quillen. “Our firm was one of the first of Atlanta's larger firms to recognize special merit in the school's strategy of attracting mature students who already had succeeded in other careers. Several of our partners are GSU law school graduates. These and many other successful attorneys from the College of Law have been important to our firm and to our clients. In recognition of our special relationship and all that the school has meant to our firm, Fisher & Phillips is proud to play this special role in the College of Law's 25th anniversary year."
Anniversary activities pack the calendar through May 2008 including an Alumni Kickoff day featuring Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue and a reception at the site of the College of Law's future campus; a keynote visit from the Honorable Sandra Day O'Connor; a pro bono initiative that commits 25,000 hours of public service to the college's community neighbors; and a special 25th Anniversary Gala at the Atlanta History Center featuring “A Conversation With the Georgia Governors.”
And in February 2008, the college will host an international conference on The Future of Legal Education, the first academic conference of its kind to address the recent report of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, which calls for fundamental changes in American legal education.
