Jeffrey R. Kuester Named '07 Alumni Service to the COL Award Recipient

Jeffrey R. Kuester ('93) Jeffrey R. Kuester ('93) has been named the 2007 recipient of the Alumni Service to the College of Law Award.
Kuester, who is a partner at the intellectual property law firm of Thomas, Kayden, Horstemeyer & Risley in Atlanta, is a founding member of the Georgia State College of Law Intellectual Property Alumni Advisory Group. He has taken an active role in advancing the profile of the COL's intellectual property initiative, and was honored for his dedication, support and efforts on behalf of his alma mater.
The 2007 Alumni Service to the College of Law Award was presented to Kuester by last year's co-recipient, Clifford S. Stanford ('95). Stanford, the incoming president of the COL Graduate Leadership Council, and outgoing president Dawn Jones ('00), presented the award during the recent Ben F. Johnson Public Service Award ceremonies.
In addition to his service to the College through his work with the IP alumni organization, Kuester is also an adjunct professor at the COL.
"Serving the Georgia State Univerisity College of Law community continues to be an extremely rewarding and worthwhile experience for me," Kuester commented, "and it is one that I wholeheartedly encourage all alumni to discover."
Kuester received his undergraduate degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1989, and his J.D. from Georgia State in 1993. While attending the College of Law, Kuester worked with Lou Isaf, a highly respected intellectual property lawyer for more than 20 years and a founding partner of the Atlanta firm of Isaf, Vaughan & Kerr, which merged with Womble Carlyle in 1998. He is a founding partner of the law firm and has experience in many aspects of patent, trademark, copyright and Internet law. Currently Kuester concentrates his practice in the areas of patent preparation and prosecution in the fields of software, telecommunications and electronics. He is a frequent author, speaker and panelist in intellectual property law.
A former chair of the American Bar Patent Legislation Committee, Kuester has also served the State Bar of Georgia as Chair of the Intellectual Property Law Section and Chair of the Computer Law Section (now the Technology Law Section), both of which received the State Bar's "Section of the Year" award under his leadership. Kuester is currently a member of the Advisory Board for the Bureau of National Affair's (BNA) Electronic Commerce & Law Report, and he serves on the Board of Editors for American Lawyer Media's Patent Strategy & Management. He is also a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Cobb County Bar Association.
