Hooding Ceremony sends 187 J.D. candidates off to graduation

With hundreds of friends and family members cheering them on from the stands, a spirited graduating class of 187 law students participated in the College of Law's 2008 Hooding Ceremony Friday, May 9, at the Georgia State University Sports Arena.
The Juris Doctor candidates in their academic regalia paraded one by one to the stage, where members of the law faculty carefully affixed hoods-trimmed in purple to signify law-to their academic regalia.
College of Law Dean Steven Kaminshine welcomed the graduating class and their guests, and Provost Ron Henry extended greeting from the university. Graduation candidate Joshua Sanders, also the outgoing president of the college's Student Bar Association, then spoke to his fellow class members about the journey they had taken to get here.
The Honorable Robert Benham, Justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia delivered the keynote address. Afterwards, Dean Kaminshine presented Justice Benham with a framed timeline detailing highlights of the law school's first 25 years.
All law students graduating Summer 2007, Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 were eligible to participate in the Hooding Ceremony. Members of the College of Law hooding team for 2008 were Professors Paul S. Milich, Mary F. Radford, Roy M. Sobelson, B. Ellen Taylor, and Kelly Cahill Timmons.
Members of the graduating class gathered afterwards for a reception on the Urban Life Plaza with friends, family, members of the administration, faculty and staff.
The hooding of law candidates preceded the formal conferral of degrees, which took place May 10 during Georgia State University's commencement ceremonies.
