Eric Segall comments on nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court

Georgia State University College of Law Professor Eric Segall was quoted in a May 27 story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on President Barack Obama's nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court.
If the Senate confirms her nomination, Sotomayor, now a federal appeals judge, will be the first Latina and third woman overall to serve on the high court. Of the nine current Supreme Court justices, one is an African-American man and one is a woman.
“The court should be representative of all Americans. It is a little more representative now than it was this morning,” said Segall, who teaches federal courts and constitutional law.
If there is a challenge Sotomayor will face, Segall said, “it is that she is more moderate than five other members of the court.”
Segall's articles on constitutional law have appeared in, among others, the UCLA Law Review, the George Washington Law Review, the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Constitutional Law, the University of Pittsburgh Law Review, and the Florida Law Review, and he has been a frequent contributor to Constitutional Commentary. He has served on the Executive Committee of the AALS section on federal courts, and has given numerous speeches both inside and outside the academy on constitutional law questions and the Supreme Court.
