May 1, 2009
Associate Dean for Library and Information Services and Professor of Law Nancy Johnson has been named the 2009 recipient of the Frederick Charles Hicks Award for Outstanding Contributions to Academic Law Librarianship.
This award recognizes the individual or group who has made outstanding contributions to academic law librarianship through continued efforts to improve law librarianship. The award, presented by the Academic Law Libraries Special Interest Section (ALL-SIS) of the American Association of Law Libraries, is named in honor of Frederick Charles Hicks, the first great American law librarian/scholar who was also the first academic law librarian to serve as president of American Association of Law Libraries (AALL).
"I know the Hicks award is especially meaningful to Nancy as it is an award bestowed by her colleagues across the country," Dean Steven J. Kaminshine said. "It's so nice to see so many others recognize what we at the College of Law have long known about Nancy's incredible leadership and talent."
The award will be presented to Johnson at the ALL-SIS Awards Ceremony at the AALL Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, July 25-28. Past award recipients are Penny Hazelton of the University of Washington, Frank Houdek of Southern Illinois University, Dick Danner of Duke University, Bob Berring of the University of California-Berkeley, Tim Coggins of the University of Richmond, Barbara Bintliff of the University of Colorado, Roger Jacobs of Notre Dame, Roy Mersky of the University of Texas, and Bob Oakley of Georgetown University.
