SITE DESCRIPTION

The Georgia House Democratic Caucus serves as a focal point for legislative strategy, press relations, and policy development for the Democratic members of the Georgia House of Representatives. Externs will review bills and statutes, draft legislation and talking points, and perform public policy research. During the legislative session, which runs from January through the end of March, externs will analyze hundreds of bills, follow committees, perform research, and issue spot. Externs will gain insight into constitutional law, legislative intent and the rules of statutory construction. Exceptional students will be given the opportunity to interact directly with representatives and draft legislation.

STUDENT QUALIFICATIONS

Prerequisites:

  • Constitutional Law
  • Applicants should have excellent writing skills and be very detail oriented.
  • A high degree of maturity, discretion, and an interest in government are necessary.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

A cover letter, two letters of reference, and a short writing sample are required at the time of application.
