SITE DESCRIPTION
This externship focuses on criminal and civil matters before Fayette County State Court, to include observing motions hearings, bench trials, and jury trials. The extern will assist Judge Thompson with his caseload through legal research and writing, including summarizing case files, drafting memorandums on varying areas of law, and drafting orders for the judge’s review. The extern will also assist by following changes in the law and analyzing their application to the court.
STUDENT QUALIFICATIONS
Prerequisites:
- Strong legal analysis, writing, and communication skills
- A positive attitude and the ability to work well with others as part of a team
- A clean criminal history (other than minor traffic offenses)
