Come June, you likely will receive emails from the Georgia Office of Bar Admissions stating that your final transcript is overdue. DON’T PANIC. The Georgia Bar knows that our students will not be sending final GSU Law transcripts by the deadline. Law grades are due on June 4, they do not post until June 6, and you don't actually graduate until June 21, 2019. Here is what you need to know:
- Once the degree is conferred (again, June 21), the College of Law will deliver letters (NOT transcripts) stating the date of graduation to the Office of Bar Admissions was June 21, 2019, for each law student who graduated this spring. This letter will allow you to sit for the Georgia Bar. You do not have to make a formal request for this letter. We automatically take care of this. BUT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SENDING IN YOUR OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT.
- WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO: Request an official final law transcript from the Office of the University Registrar. The law school does not send official law transcripts. You can request your official law transcript from the PAWS web site. Do not do this now. I suggest that you request your GSU Law transcript after June 25. This should give the University Registrar's Office time to put the degree statement (which is what the Office of Bar Admissions wants) on the transcripts. You should submit your final transcript to the Georgia Bar prior to sitting for the exam.
- You will probably continue to receive information from the Office of Bar Admissions stating the June deadline. We have spoken to the Office of Bar Admissions and they are aware that GSU's calendar differs from that of the other Georgia law schools (they are not, however, changing their documents for us).
- If you are not taking the Georgia Bar, you must consult the information provided by that state bar.
TO REITERATE:
- You graduate on June 21, 2019.
- Letters stating your graduation will be delivered to the Office of Bar Admissions on June 24 (if not earlier).
- Send the Office of Bar Admissions your official, final law transcripts as soon as it’s available (after June 24).
